The Big Sister Experience works with both Primary and Secondary aged students and is a holistic approach to teaching young women about LIFE. In a world that is experiencing a shocking influx of mental health and self- worth issues, The Big Sister Experience is equipping young women with skills and knowledge to increase their self-awareness and capabilities of resilience. Throughout the program, The Big Sisters cover a range of issues that are not generally covered in the curriculum, but are essential to a successful, happy and fulfilled life.
The Big Sister Experiences works with both Primary and Secondary students with workshops starting from Year 5 right up to Year 12. We pride ourselves on working together with schools to create a bespoke workshop that caters to the direct needs of the cohort we will be working with. We had The Big Sister Experience out to run our Year 6-7 Transition Program. It was a fantastic workshop for our students and they were thoroughly engaged throughout the day. It catered for both boys and girls and even our challenging students enjoyed the day.
They were organised, fun and used their personal experiences to provide the students with real examples and strategies to help students feel more confident about making the transition to secondary school.
It was a great workshop and I think a much needed one for girls our age. So often we get caught up in life that we forget to take care of ourselves, and the Big Sister Experience was a great way to take some time to remind ourselves just how much we are worth and how it is very important to surround ourselves with people who let us be ourselves.
I would definitely recommend The Big Sister Experience to other girls my age because it is so important to understand more about yourself, and how to manage your social circles, as well as how important it is for girls to support girls. These are definitely much needed topics to raise with girls in high school.
I really liked how they explained everything because a lot of people won’t come out and say yes it’s hard, most people just come out and say love yourself, but they won’t actually explain how. It’s really nice that they explained all the different ways to love yourself and expressed what they went through so we could relate to them.
Also the way they opened up and they didn’t worry about not telling the full story because it might be confronting. It’s good to be confronting, it’s good to make people uncomfortable because the real world is confronting and it’s uncomfortable and there’s so many situations and it’s just good to give us that experience that you are not alone, you are here and they told us that and really made us believe it!
