Camera Man Dave
Many of you will have seen Camera Man Dave popping up like an alternatively kooky Where’s Wally either at our live events or on our social media videos. Camera Man Dave represents all we could want in a Media Man… he’s tech savvy, creative, and he thinks Bianca and Kritz are the funniest humans he’s ever had the pleasure of mingling with. When he’s not demanding biscuits to dunk in his tea whilst editing the latest Big Sister footage, you can find Dave foraging through op shops or binge watching the latest drama on Netflix. His proudest moment was when The Big Sister Experience was featured on the Today show where Dave was heard quoted as saying “oh my god my elbow made it onto national TV!” Often known to bring The Big Sister Experience to tears via his editing masterpieces, Camera Man Dave is the kind of gentle, loving soul the team loves to be around.
Grace is our loving and massive hearted Soul Sister, who has the resilience and strength of a lioness. When she is not actively avoiding an early morning, you can catch her baking one of her cake masterpieces that will make you want to lick your phone screen. Having completed a Bachelor of Youth Work, and passionate about discussing real and raw topics affecting our teens today, Grace is a valuable member of The Big Sister Experience team. Always empathetic and open-minded, Grace brings a wealth of professional and personal experience to the table. When asked what she loves most about working in the team, Grace says she loves how the crew supports each other, shows vulnerability and practices self-care. Even though she can’t be trusted with a packet of chocolate Tiny Teddy’s, Grace’s passion for the work we do at The Big Sister Experience and the wellbeing of the girls we work with makes up for it. She’s one of a kind!
Laura is the “tech savvy” contributor to our team. On the tail end of her Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies, Laura is keen to complete her Master of Teaching in 2021. She loves working as part of a true sisterhood and says she loves how we listen to each other’s thoughts and feelings as though we were a little family who could together do anything! When she’s not watching Netflix (or Stan… or Disney+…) you can find her hanging out with friends or playing board games. Her good knowledge of various aspects of digital media are key skills that she brings to the Big Sister Experience as well as several years of experience working with children from primary through to secondary age groups. Laura is passionate about helping others and her personal values are in perfect harmony with ours at The Big Sister Experience and the goals we are working towards achieving. Never one to back down from a challenge, Laura’s biggest strength is her passion and enthusiasm for what she does. If she’s passionate about something, she follows it through with every breath. Although her biggest weakness is getting out of her cozy warm bed in the morning, we are so grateful Laura finds working with us at The Big Sister Experience worth it!
IT Man Dan
If you’ve ever stopped to think “WOW, what a great website” or “AMAZING, what a breeze to register for this online course!?” then you’re admiring the handy work of our IT Man Dan! Dan has pretty much been part of The Big Sister Experience team since day dot. When he’s not being hounded by Bianca or Kritz to address something that’s not as dramatic or urgent as both of them feel it is, Dan can be found hiding out bush in Gembrook. He says he loves the serenity. We think it’s to dodge phone reception and to avoid dealing with the dozens of messages from Kritz about where the entire testimonial page disappeared to when she clicked that button…! Dan truly is a treasure. His patience, encouragement, creativity and support continue to allow The Big Sister Experience to grow, evolve and flourish. He is unlike any other web designer we have ever met, and we are NEVER letting him go! (mwah-ha-ha-ha you’re stuck with us forever DAN!)
Maddy was The Big Sister Experience’s intern 1.0. Our first intern is fresh out of year 12 and hitting the ground running. When asked what she loves most about working with The Big Sister Experience team, Maddy says it’s the amount of love and support she gets, and the fact that she gets to hang out with other likeminded women who share the same passion as she does. When she’s not going shopping or eating ham and cheese toasties, you can usually catch Maddy watching screaming goat videos on YouTube. She avoids cooking at all costs but loves the fact that when she comes to work at The Big Sister Experience, she knows what she is helping create is changing the lives of the girls we work with. Maddy has a warm and caring nature and a wicked sense of humour. Her biggest weakness would have to be Cherry Ripe bars, but her attitude and enthusiasm towards her role more than makes up for her chocolate addiction. We love that Maddy chose us to intern with!
Nicky is the “write things good” member of our team. She wants to live in a world where love letters are brave, not creepy and thank you notes are scribbled by hand, not sent with the thumb’s up emoji over text. She’s been applauded for her engaging writing that will have you saying ‘WOW’, and specialises in blog writing, EDM copy, website content and press releases. When she’s not typing up a storm, you can find Nicky re-reading the classics, watching obscene amounts of Netflix with zero shame or writing out thoughts in her daily journal. Nicky is in her third year of a Bachelor of Arts degree and majors in (shock!) Creative Writing and Public Relations. She loves the fact that The Big Sister Experience team practices what they preach, even in challenging and uncertain times. Nicky is a terrible liar but is on the fence about the ‘fake it ‘til you make it’ motto. We are super grateful to have Nicky on our team for 2020!
Alex is one of our favourite Brit and blog contributor. She completed a Bachelor of English with Creative Writing all the way over in the UK before settling in Australia, and loves sharing her experience, stories and thoughts with us to support the work we are doing with girls and their families. When asked why she loves being part of our mission at The Big Sister Experience, Alex says she adores the pure-hearted supportiveness and the team’s passion for encouraging girls to love one another. When she’s not reading a good book or going for a run, you can find Alex writing for mental health charities or engaging in some kind of creative writing. A massive theatre-goer, Alex brings a wealth of personal experience to our team and her ability to be vulnerable and authentic in her writing has helped dozens of the families and girls within our community. Although she avoids public speaking with a passion, Alex is known to spend way too long consuming cute dog videos. We are thankful for her willingness to contribute to our community!
